ইতিহাস ক্ষণিকের হাইপ কিংবা ন্যারেটিভের ভিত্তিতে লেখা হয় না, লেখা হয় শত-শত বছরে। আজ যাদের পরাজিত, মুনাফেক, গাদ্দার, বা বোকা বলে তাচ্ছিল্য করা হচ্ছে.. কালক্রমে বহু-বছর পর তাদেরই প্রজ্ঞা-বান সিদ্ধান্তের স্তুতি গাওয়া হবে।
যেমন বলি.. বিএনপি জুলাই সনদে সই করেছে। সই করা মানে এক কথাই জুলাই সনদকে স্বীকৃতি দিচ্ছে। অথচ, সেই সনদের আইনি ভিত্তি প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে অনুষ্ঠিত গণভোটে বিএনপি ‘না’ ভোটের পক্ষে প্রচারণা চালাচ্ছে– যা কার্যত জুলাই সনদকে অগ্রাহ্য করার অবস্থানকেই নির্দেশ করে।
অন্যদিকে, এনসিপি জুলাই সনদে সই করেনি। তাদের যুক্তি– জুলাই সনদের কোনো আইনি বৈধতা নেই। তবে, গণভোটের মাধ্যমে যদি সেই বৈধতা প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়, তাহলে এনসিপি তাদের অবস্থান পুনর্বিবেচনা করবে এবং যথাসময়ে সনদে সই করবে এমন ইঙ্গিতও দিয়েছে।
জামায়াতের অবস্থান ছিল ভিন্ন। তারা জুলাই সনদে সই করেছে। একইসাথে চাপ প্রয়োগ করে ঘোষণা দিয়েছে– সনদের আইনি ভিত্তি নিশ্চিত না করা হলে তারা সেই সই প্রত্যাহার করবে। কিছুদিনের মধ্যেই, জুলাই সনদের আইনি বৈধতা প্রশ্নে গণভোট আয়োজনের বিষয়ে ঐকমত্যে পৌঁছায় কমিশন।
অতএব.. সাময়িক দৃষ্টিকোণ, ক্ষণিকের হাইপ এবং দুর্বল ন্যারেটিভ বাদ দিয়ে বুঝতে হবে–
'History is not written in the heat of the moment; its judgment comes only with the patience of centuries… and history remembers the wisdom of those who dared..'
English Translation:
History is not written based on momentary hype or popular narratives; it is written over hundreds of years. Those who are mocked today as defeated, hypocrites, traitors, or fools– with time, history often ends up praising the wisdom behind their decisions.
Take, for example, the July Charter. The BNP has signed the charter. Signing it essentially means recognizing it. Yet, during the referendum aimed at establishing its legal validity, the BNP is campaigning for a ‘No’ vote– which in effect signals a stance of rejecting the July Charter.
On the other hand, the NCP did not sign the July Charter. Their argument is that the charter currently has no legal validity. However, they have indicated that if the referendum eventually grants the charter legal legitimacy, they will reconsider their position and sign it at the appropriate time.
Jamaat’s stance was different. They signed the July Charter. At the same time, they exerted pressure and publicly stated that if the legal foundation of the charter is not ensured, they will withdraw their signature. Within a short time, the commission reached a consensus to hold a referendum to resolve the matter of the charter’s legal status.
Therefore… setting aside temporary viewpoints, momentary hype, and weak narratives– we must understand:
History is not written in the heat of the moment; its judgment comes only with the patience of centuries.. and history remembers the wisdom of those who dared.
